What is baseball-systems.com about?
This site is currently dedicated to a baseball run line betting system I have developed and been tracking for the last 3 years. I have been collecting and analyzing years of run line data and have created my own system that creates odds for each game based on this data.
The system is based on finding value between posted odds and the odds that my system produces. For the first year I tracked every game, no matter what the difference was in the odds. I found that if I would have played system games that were +/- a certain threshold then the posted odds, the system would have been profitable.
Last year, I started posting the plays that met this threshold on this site as a method of keeping track of the picks, sort of like an online diary. The results were 52-36-1, +15.5 units. This year, the system is 14-14 for +6.20 units, keeping with the same amount of value needed to make a pick a system play.
What is value in regards to this system?
Value to me is the opportunity to make more money then I should on an event, regardless of what the outcome is. For example, if I offer you $2 for every heads when flipping a coin and you offer me $1 for every tails. No matter what the outcome of the event is, win or lose, this was a good bet by you that had value. With this system, it is not about picking winners, but finding this value that over time will generate profit by winning more when you win and losing less when you lose.
What is a baseball run line?
A runline bet in baseball is typically a bet where the favored team must win by more then one run to win the bet, or where the underdog can lose by 1 run and win the bet.
Example of a run line
Here are typical odds you could see for a baseball game. The run line is shown under “Line”.
Reds +1.5 (-200) means that if you bet on the Reds you will need to bet $200 to win $100, and that you are “getting” 1.5 runs.
Phillies -1.5 (+170) means that if you bet on the Phillies you will win $170 for every $100 you bet, and that you are “giving” 1.5 runs.
What do your picks mean?
You will see run line picks written on this site like this: Seattle Mariners -1.5 +170. This means that the Seattle Mariners are a system play, I am betting on Seattle, Seattle must win by at least 2 runs, and a $100 bet will win you $170 (plus your $100 bet back).
What are units in your record?
I indicate units won or lost instead of dollars won or lost. A unit is a standard bet size I make when betting on these games. People that follow the system all bet different sizes. If you do start following the system, you will be able to tell how much you would be up or down by multiplying your standard bet size by the number of units the system is at.
If the pick is favored (ex. -200), my bet is 2 units to win 1 unit.
If the pick is an underdog (ex. +170), my bet is 1 unit to win 1.7 units.
